Atlantic Margin Metocean Project (AMMP)

The Atlantic Margin Metocean Project (AMMP) was a speculative programme led by Fugro GEOS to develop metocean design criteria and provide operating statistics for the Faroe Island concession areas. It involved an assessment of satellite and hindcast data to the west of Ireland and the south of the Faroes, together with a year-long measurement programme undertaken to provide data to validate a 3-D current velocity model.

Six comprehensive oceanographic moorings were deployed west of Ireland in May 1999. Additionally, four moorings were deployed in Faroese waters in July 1999. The moorings all consisted of an upward-looking acoustic Doppler current profiler (ADCP) and a series of conventional current meters and temperature sensors, spaced through the water column to determine the detailed flow structure.

Water depths ranged from 500m to 2000m, and measurement periods ranged from 100 to 410 days.

Modelling was carried out by Ocean Numerics, using moored measurement data provided by Fugro GEOS.
